RIC'S K24 EP3
Ric had some ideas for his 04 civic Sir.He decided to go with a 2004 tsx motor. The motor was left in basically stock form. With the addition of a modified intake cam wheel and buddy club race header and a bigger than stock exhaust.A rsx throttle body with karcepts adapter needed to be installed to get rid of the drive by wire throttle body that comes with the tsx. The install was alot more that just a type S install, we had to customize the passanger side motor mount to ensure the motor was sitting just right. The cam wheel mod took in excess of 5 hours. The harness needed to be customized to fit back on the tsx motor(civic harness).Quite a few mods to the cooling hoses under the intake, and the installation of the civic thermostat housing kept the water outlet facing the right direction.Once the motor sat in its straightened stance, we could proceed to fit the header. The header would need a custom stabilizer bar, and some extra welding to clear properly! Bryan did an excellant job with the swap and Ric truly loves the install. A k-pro would be added to the mix to enable the motor to run at its maximum. On the dyno Ric's new powerplant put down 206 horsepower and 179 foot pounds of torque to the wheels. We cut the rpm at 7500, but the hp was flat and could have held for another 500 rpm.The torque was heading down, so we feel the exhaust is restricted and the intake and throttle body definately need some work.Originally we were going to install an RBC intake, but the clearance was a big issue.Maby in the future who knows. The stock 5-speed transmission is still in place along with the original clutch from the civic.Ric is already working on that problem.Ric loves the quarter mile, and can't wait to get his ride down the track to see some great times.Good luck
latest on Ric: This summer Ric will test out some of his new parts. The LSD differential should give the car some better quarter mile times, last year Ric did a best et of 13.77 @ 104 mph, and the goal this season will be to get it down at least .5 of a second. Also the addition of a PRC intake manifold with RDX 410 cc injectors should give the motor a little more top end-results up soon.A note about the after market fuel rails. We installed the PRC intake with RDX injectors and the BDL fuel rail would not sit properly and seal the injectors but the Golden Eagle did.The BDL would have fit alright for the RSX injectors as they are longer than the RDX injectors. The Golden Eagle rail is identical in construction to the stock rail as where the BDL rail is a little different. The injector fitting was not hard as long as you have the Toyota scion injector clips and a dremel. You need to modify the pins that go into the clips as so they lock in place
